KINGSLAND — Universal Mortgage opened a local branch Sept. 1 under the direction of manager Carole Duncan.

Universal Mortgage is a 45-year-old nationwide company

“Basically, I help people by originating loans and help customers practice responsible lending practices. I have been in the mortgage lending business for 30 years,” Duncan said. “I strive for exemplary service in the mortgage industry and have won a number of awards for customer service.”

Duncan says Universal is a mortgage lender, not a broker. The company originates FHA, VA and conventional loans and they offer state bond programs including the Texas Veterans Land Board program for processing VA loans.

“We also service our own loans,” she said. “The borrower always has a point of contact with us over the life of the loan to better assist the customer.”

Duncan says the company has not been affected by the subprime loan situation experienced by other companies, and Universal is the only mortgage lender in Kingsland.

The office is at 1907 RR 1431 West, and the number is (325) 388-2860.

Man's goal: Keeping history alive

BURNET — When "Buddy" Inman drives along U.S. 281, he's thinking about the past.

He wonders about others who have traveled the road and why and how their journeys relate to Texas history.

Inman's interest in history is one reason he joined the Sons of the Republic of Texas, a genealogical organization committed to preserving the history of the state and passing it on to the next generation of Texans.
